Imalent DT70 16000 Lumens BEAST Flashlight

The Imalent DT70 is one of the craziest monster flashlight today as of 2017. It outputs max of 16000 lumens with 4x LEDs and offers you a full package (comes with battery and USB charge feature), which you can play out of the box, without having to buy anything extra. Sum it up in short, if you like monster flashlight, or what we call pocket monster, you will want to own one of these. The 16000 lumens is legit, but some say it is about 13000 lumens or about only, which doesn't matter much to be honest.  I have the Thrunite TN36 2017 and it is a 10000 lumens light by Thrunite. This beast IS BRIGHTER than the Thrunite by far, so you know what I mean now?

Here goes the 4x LED on the Imalent DT70, and the orange peel reflector is quite deep, which gives you a good amount of throw. The box says 700m of throw, and yes this is throwy for such a crazy bright flooder light. I have never seen a flooder that throwy too.

 

Roll the light over, and here goes the OLED screen with voltage display and the lumen / mode display. The 2 rubber buttons are easy to press and will not be turn on by accident for sure. It does take some force to push and turn it on. I have to say, the voltage reading on this light is not very accurate, but it is better to have the estimation feature than not have.

 

 

Roll the light over, you will see the USB port behind the rubber seal / cover. This rubber cap can be pulled off easily with some force, be careful not to lose it when you are out in the dark.

 

 

The back is pretty, you will see the imalent DT70 word in big bolded font, and the "flood king" who claimed to have 700m of throw, but still a "flood king". What the heck eh?

 

 

The light has a few modes, from 80lm, 1000lm, 5000lm, 8500lm and then the 16000lm.

 

When you turn on the light, you can see the OLED, and yup the anti-roll design really works.

 

Here goes the 16000  lumens mode, and everywhere is white-out, super scary bright.

 

As I said before, the Imalent DT70 comes with 4x batteries and they are 3000mah Samsung brand INR18650 inside. I know because I ripped one of the battery and rewrapped it, and the inside says Samsung! :)  Nice battery for nice flashlight, good combo!

 

I forgot to add, this light can operate on 1x, or 2x, or 3x, or 4x battery, and if you watch my review, you will see my testing with it. That means, if your battery died on the trip, and you are left with only 1x 18650, you can still put it into this light and enjoy your bright night. It's super cool to have this feature, which even the Thrunite TN36 don't have!

 

Here goes the big strong springs in the body, and some people say that these springs will loosen up with time and not hold the contact well. I don't know how it will really do, but to me they are still doing fine at this moment. We will update the crowd if something happen to wear out and not work later on.

 

 

That's right, the Imalent DT70 is another palm size monster, or a pocket monster. It actually fits my jacket's pocket on the side.  Very good size for camping and even walking. I have been walking with this light for a few days now and it is a joy to walk with it daily. Super cool to see the 16000 lumens blast of light from time to time - although it is dangerous to blast it out when cars are driving by!

 

Here is the size comparison between the HaikeLite MT03 ont he left, and the Thrunite TN36 2017 on the right. The Imalent DT70 is a bit taller than both but slimmer than the Haikelite. The anti-roll design on the Imalent DT70 is better than the two others. They are all good lights, but the 16000 lumens is hard to beat, it's really crazy bright!

Most Powerful Flashlight for Lumens -7300 Lumens Pop Can Light!

 

The Thrunite TN36-UT got to be the most powerful flashlight you can get in the market, a 7300 lumens output in a pop can size, very amazing and can be said as a breakthrough in flashlight's history. You need to buy one, just because you want to be the king at night, and shine this thing around your neighborhood, and just watch what people do when they see the light..!  I have other lights that is about the same size, such as the Nitecore TM series and such, but they are nowhere near a 7300 lumens mark! My Thrunite TN36-UT is a neutral white version, which outputs a more warm to pink-orange color beam, and I love it!  The reflector is very much a tri-orange-peel reflector and is pretty decently floody. The size is just about the same as a pop can, or even smaller. With the tough stainless steel beel ring, you will be ensured that the glass shall not break or crack upon any drops and accidents.

 

 

Putting it side by side with a pop can is just the best thing to do with these kind of light. This Thrunite TN36-UT is the same size and appearance as their earlier Thrunite TN30 Mini and Thrunite TN36, same body, different labels on the tube, and of course, a change of the LED and battery case with the board modified to output in a certain way that fits you light's need. Somehow I really like the simple design with just one button, and just like all Thrunite's UI, it's all the smae kind of operation, which makes us a true Thrunite fans, and we just need to memorize one logic of mode changing, good and simple, no panic for emergency!

 

I have put a landyard loop there on the back of the light, and I find that the black one that it came with isn't as appealing, so I put on an orange one for better visibility at night. This one should be from lumintop! :) 

 

What is better than using Thrunite's 18650 inside this monster light?  I have find that the best battery to use for these monster lights, is to stick to their manufacture's brand. I am sure they test all their flashlights using their own brand of batteries (if they have made it). You can't go wrong with Thrunite's battery, buy the full package with the batteries and chargers, they are super quality products!

 

 

The top and bottom of this battery holder is the same, so you do not have to worry about the battery going in the wrong direction. It is also very easy to put the battery bundle into the tube. Unlike the JETBeam RRT3 of mine which just hates to eat most brands of the batteries, and the body just love to scratch and peel off the wrappings all the time. This one fits just fine, and is very friendly to my batteries! 

 

The holder is very nice and sturdy, in case of anything, if you ever run out of battery, you can use it as a candle holder or a mug, lol!  I figured that it won't be nice to pour pepsi in there, since we don't want to drink with the grease and crap on the edge... but... 

 

I love how you can still have a strong firefly mode in this monster light!  Personally I have put this light on firefly mode for over 1 months without turning it off, and it did the job!  After a month or so, I pull the batteries out for a recharge and they are at about 3.6v only instead of 4.2v, so I still have some days to go!  Imagine you are in a very stressful survival situation, if you have a light like this and the firefly mode or low mode can really get you some help even you are lost for a month! 

I have heard from LEOs that they sometimes have to go on night shift at a traffic stopping station, and they just don't turn the light off the whole night, because they need to constantly do work.  At the same time, they don't want to change batteries during duty hours too. If you have this light, you can use it on the medium mode for the whole night already, and it's crazy bright!  You are very ensured to be geared up and prepared!

 

Double click for turbo mode -7300 lumens!  I have never seen a light that bright before, but I can tell you that it's like turning on your normal lights at home, everything seems just like daylight when you light up a dark room with this thing. Thrunite TN36-UT is crazy, and it's definitely wow-ing. The light does get a bit warm when you use it on turbo mode, but the light has some safety feature built into it, which will step down a bit to regulate the temperature for safety reason. I like that, and have proven it myself in the video testing below!

You can see the light has a temperature regulation system built in, it's for sure not going to put your life at risk with those scary lithium batteries. NEVER trust any cheapos with these high lumens and high power flashlights. Those knockoffs on ebay and stuff might seems also very bright, but they are all labelled with false claims, fake lumens, and most of all, no guarantee to last, no warranty, and they do not give a crap if your light blew up from overheat issues. It's not their concern!  While Thrunite gives you a good warranty service, good customer service, and they take our safety very seriously. With a good ethical company, you should have no worry in your mind. It's not just brighter the better, but bright and safe is the best!

 

Some of you might think frying an egg with a flashlight equals to power, but it is not the case. If the flashlight isn't going crazy hot, it cannot fry an egg up, or boil any water up. As you can see, this light is bright, and not going THAT hot, which means the regulation system is working well!

Klarus RS20, Best Flashlight for Walking in The Dark

 

The Klarus RS20 is one tough flashlight, because I have beaten it up very badly with my first one, smashed it against concrete wall and such to make sure it can withstand my abuse. Turn out the light is indeed tough enough for the job, but the side LED died or malfunction after those tests. I have got my replacement head from Klarus and it works great again. I would say that if you are using it as a flashlight and just dropping it by accident, it won't damage the light at all. I only did the job to kill the LED from REALLY smashing the light on concrete. Guess what, the light held up and the front LED is working fine. It's tough and it's definitely a life saving flashlight for any situation. The two buttons design is nice, and they are easy to use and understand by simple logic. Top button for the main light out the front, bottom button for the side LED. You cannot get it wrong in the dark, because one button is bright in color and one is black!  The light is all sealed up and waterproof, so you don't have to worry about anything getting into the light through those buttons, it's all good and safe.

 

 

Here is the front LED, 1050 lumens max, running on one 18650 inside the battery, which is included along with it's charging cable. One thing you want to know is how this charging port works!

 

 

This is the tail of the flashlight, and basically it's a magnetic surface that does not require any kind of flip, flop, open, but just SNAP that USB cable (provided in the package) on it and the light will start charging. This also ensure that the light is water proof and there is not silly rubber cover to deal with.

Convoy L6 Proved Itself is OKAY For Defense Use

The Convoy L6, 3800 lumens flashlight, has proven itself in my collection list. After smashing up soup cans and doing some abuse with it, I would say that this light is definitely built strong enough for clubbing and fighting. IF you want a strong,, powerful, bright AND tough flashlight for home defense, I strongly recommend this. The light uses 26650 batteries, and it si best to buy button tops and protected 26650 cells. The ones I got isn't the best, but they worked to provide me the power I need. I hope my new ones will arrive soon!

Throw King, Thrunite TN40! 1150 Meters with 4450 Lumens of Light!

 

This is the Thrunite TN40, the new throw king flashlight ont he market with 4450 lumens of power, throwing out ot 1150 meters!  It's a beast of a flashlight, and it's not something a normal average Joe will understand. It's just insane!  The light is very similar in appearance to the Nitecore TM16GT and similar flashlights in the same class, but this baby has proven itself in my video testings on YouTube. You can basically search up Thrunite TN40 on YouTube and see my videos there already, we have done a lot of comparison videos, it's just stunning how crazy this thing is.

 

A four bulb design usually gives you a very floody beam, but somehow they managed to focus it and throw it out pretty far. The Nitecore TM16GT was shocking enough for me, 1003 meters. This one made it to 1150 meters, what did people in the factor feed these flashlights with? Maybe steroids?  

 

Take a close look at the LEDs. They seems to have some sort of milky white coating or dome over it? 

 

 

There is one thing I would like to complain, which is the non-anti-roll design of this Thrunite TN40. It just doesn't stays in place for the photo taking!  I have to put the landyard there to stop it from rolling. The light comes with a sling, but I hate to use a sling for my flashlights unless it is super mega size. I put a landyard loop over this and it works just fine!  Don't get clumsy and big with such a compact flashlight!  It's just contradicting! 

 

This is what most people hate on the forums - the battery pack!  Yes you cannot use your normal batteries (18650) with this anymore, but the battery pack works just fine and you get a super fast charging time, almost 1/2 the time required to charge. This is a bummer for most flashlight collectors, but I think it's still okay for me, since a lot of flashlight still uses battery packs and chargers anyway. It's not like this is the only thing that does it. There are other monster lights that requires their own battery pack too, such as my Olight SR90, so what?

 

 

The body and design is as simple as most Thrunite goes, and it's sexy enough. I like the simple design with just one button. In the dark, you just don't want to go sci-fi mode like the Fenix, it's insane hard to find which button to press even there are only two. One button design is really nice, and really works especially in a stressful situation, your brain really cannot operate more than 5%!

Personally, I have tried to put the Thrunite TN36UT and TN30mini battery tube on this light, and they do fit and work to light up the Thrunite TN40, but then, it's not good to do. As the factory stated, it's not oaky to do so and you can risk frying the flashlight in no time. So I was just lucky enough to not go kaboom on it, but ya, I hope they make the light with a feature to detect and change its intake method or something so it can be also powered by the older battery pack. I will be great to be interchangeable, but I guess technology still needs a bit of time to catch up or something?  It's okay right now, but will be BETTER for all if they can accept normal 18650 isn't it?  If they make battery packs, why not make a 2x or 3x capacity one for more juice instead, which makes it more worth using a "pack" than a normal 4x 18650 setup?  I wish they have a 2x capacity one for more runtime.

There goes the Convoy L6 and the Thrunite TN36-UT beside the Thrunite TN40. Personally, I would recommend people the Thrunite TN36-UT more than a Thrunite TN40, because it's more stunning and wow-ing to most people. But then, the Thrunite TN40 is a buy-and-play package. You do not need to buy extra charger, batteries and all that stuff. Just by the flashlight and you are all good to go, which makes it simple and easy for a lot of people. The Thrunite TN40 is not "compact" if you use it with a sling, but I guess most flashlights with this kind of setup is all the same - small body, big head, and mega throw power. I can't complain much. Afterall, it's light weight, short, and powerful.

Best Home Defense Flashlight for $50 Only?! Convoy L6!

For home defense flashlight, you want something bigger, and more powerful. Such as the Convoy L6 that we have reviewed in our previous review of the Convoy L6. There can be so many good things to say about this light, but the main key point is that it's inexpensive compared to the similar lights in the same class, it's size offers you a perfect grip as a club if needed, and most importantly, the power that it can output is stunning - 3800 lumens of light right to the face, how can any attasckers at night keep their eyes open anyway?  As you can see there is a side switch for mode changing, which mades it very easy to use at night. No need to "guess" how to change modes by fiddling with semi-clicking the back.

 

One thing I like about the Convoy L6 is the "fins" part which was made for the heat issue when running on high power, just like any high power flashlights, but the designs acts as an anti-rolling feature, plus it can be an extra pain-giver during home defense clubbing time. I am talking about you clubbing someone's head or arm with it, not the clubbing where you go gossip with yuor friends of course.  

 

Here is the LED in the center, as you can see, it's a squarey LED with 4 sections. Skipping all the tech and specs, I have been told why this light has an orange peel reflector, and the reason is because of this LED. IF the reflector is a smooth reflector (which is better for throw power, gives you a longer beam distance), it will turn into a donut shape beam at close range, which isn't very nice. In order to overcome this issue, they need to put an orange peel reflector to smoothen out the donut and make it a creamy beamshot, or at least, more buttery.  

 

The tailcap is nice and typical design for most lights, but it is also tailstandable and somehow I find that the ridges or the part that is raised up is somewhat a good weapon for close up pinching and smashing techniques. If you have to get out of a big thug-hug, you might want to use the corners to pinch down their nerves at the back of their hand, it will definitely work well.

 

In case of anything, after your 3800 lumens light beam got the guy crazy, you can follow up with a caveman style clubbing, and go ape-mode with the guy. Nothing is better than what we learned int he past with maglits' theory. Get a long and heavy light and smash things with it like a hammer, or baton. The Convoy L6 uses 2x 26650 batteries, which makes it heavier than the typic 18650 and such. It's like a C cell batter size, but longer. I can say that the length of the 26650 is just the same as the 18650 too, just that it is fatter, and heavier, plus more capacity in most cases. I got a set now that claims to be 5000mah, which gives me more runtime than the 18650 at 3400mah for sure. With a big light like this, you want more juice, more runtime, more weight - so you can club people with it effectively. As I say, this is a good home defense light, and home defense do not require a flashlight to be compact and light weight, it jsut needs to be as deadly as possible.

 

The Convoy L6 is also tail-stand friendly, which is very useful when a blackout happens. I have been using it this way all the time for my night time walking-around-the-house operation. Just shien it around the house by pointing it up, the light being bounced down is enough to let you see everything and you won't be blinding by your own light too. Great idea, right? 

The Convoy L6 is not a light that can be used as a weapon light (mounted to a gun), but it is definitely one of my best choice for home defense or security flashlight. Imagine a security guard walking with this at night, checking out the park or parking lot, you can light up the whole place easily and no need to guess if any guy is hiding somewhere with dark clothing which your little maglit cannot reveal. Check out the outdoor bemashot test, and imagine this is your backyard or a parking lot that you have to scout around at night.
