On the Road U16 - Rechargeable Mini Light with 730 Lumens

 

The "On the Road U16" is one of the best full package flashlight for the budge tlight crowd. Some say On the Road is a copy of the Olight, but I don't see any olight like this at the moment though. I can only tell you what I see, which is a full package flashlight, powerful 730 lumens output, with a rechargeable 16340 battery included, and the accessories that you need to get it running. You don't even need a charger, this light has a USB port for that and you are all set!

The light is not expensive, but it comes with a nice full-package - landyard, pouch, battery, o-rings, manual and the light. Good enough!  I think this kind of packaging is nice for gifts too, much better than the crappy clam-shell package by some other companies.

 

The 16340 battery that comes with the light, 700mah. The light can be used for days if you use it on the low mode most of the time, which is actually the way to use these small lights. If you use it indoor, low mode is enough most of the time already, that's how we use it in reality!

  

 

Gold plated spring, and magnet below the spring for sticking this light to the fridge or car or anything. Keep in mind that the magnet is not the strongest thing in the world, some other lights have stronger magnets, but I think you can replace it with your own in the future maybe. It works, but not the best for sure.

 

Gold plated springs inside too, nice electronics, and potted internals, good enough, tough enough!

 

Very nice design for the anti-roll feature, and the light is stylish with the big head, which I actually do quite like. The button is rubbery to the finger, and you got a nice OP reflector for a spready beam.

 

The other side of the switch is a rubber cover for the USB port, and yes, it is waterproof!

On the Road logo on the other side, and as you can see, the light is anti-roll on almost any angle!

 

OP reflector, large LED there, I think it should be quite powerful in the dark!

 

Also keep in mind - this is the most important mode out of all modes - moonlight!

The light claims to be 730 lumens, but I think it is about 500 lumens or about in reality. The light is still very powerful for such a small light and will definitely amazing you if you never play with these mini lights in the past. You can use CR123 with this light in case you run out of 16340, but it is less powerful using normal CR123.

On the Road U16 is just like any On the Road series flashlight, good and reliable quaity..! Runs on 16340 or CR123, and it claims to fire out 720 lumens, which I doubt, but it should be somewhat alike with the 500 lumens olights s1 baton I guess? We will see it in the review and compare them side by side!

Not forget that this light comes with battery and all you need is to plug it into the USB to get things charged up!  Everything is ready-to-play out of the box!

First thing is to look at the size of this mini flashlight. You can see that it is not just "tiny" but VERY tiny in the CR123 powered flashlight class. The light is great for ladies who complain about anything being too big in their pockets or purse!

 

Packaging is simple, and only comes with the landyard loop, manual, o-rings and nothing more. Very simple indeed!

 

You can see the button here, which is actually not flush with the light, so yes, there can be accidental turn-on by chance, but you can always unscrew the cap a bit to prevent that if you do care.

 

OP reflector, giving you a good floody beam - as we all expect, but wait, there is more, it actually do have a bit of throw up to 130m!

Good to see another good spring down the tube too, so it is a good design that can prevent your battery from smashing onto the board by accidental bumps and drops.

 

Do you realize the hotspot there? I am already shocked to see such a hot spot for this kind of light, it might do better than I expected in terms of throw.

 

Laying it down like this let me see the "throw beam" better, and it is definitely not a flood-only beam.

 

The angled head of this ROFIS TR10 is pretty tight and secure, it is even a bit hard to turn, which ensures you the light will not wobble and swing around in the pocket like how the Klarus AR10 does in the past...

 

Yup, you can tailstand this baby and turn it back to "normal" flashlight setup with the head pointing straight too. I find that I do like the 90 degree setup more, but its good to have an option to choose from, unlike the Olight H1 nova which sets us on 90 degree ONLY.

After my review and playing around this product for a while, I would like to say that the product is for sure best bang for the bucks. If you have not tried a 920 lumens in such a small package yet, it's time to do so. The light seems not as bright to me tonight because I was basically playing with my 3800 lumens Convoy L6 before the video making. LOL! It's really bright after my shower and my eyes cooled down from all that crazy lumens-eating. This light uses an orange peel reflector which gives you a nice floody beam, and the one I got here is equipped with a very orange tone / warm tone beam, which is what I love for these kind of light. The cold white or cool white is nice for showoff but bad for actual use. This warm color beam makes it so comfortable for the eyes when you use it in the dark. It won't screw up your vision and make your eye balls all tensed up and such.  Oh right, and stainless steel bezel is nice, at least it is very tough and will protect your lens properly, even when dropped face-on the ground.

 

There goes the body of the "on the road M3", it's grid-looking texture does provide you some non-slip vibe when holding the light. There is also a typical yet strong clip on the side for pocket clipping, or clipping it on your hat or something liek that. From the side, you can also see the on/off button is protected by a stainless steel piece, and is definitely a well constructed design.

 

Wow, that is bright isn't it? Double click to get on turbo for 920 lumens, or just click to change modes. This baby has a lot of modes, but this one below is the best mode to me...

 

 

That's right, this is the lowest mode, what we call moonlight or firefly mode. It's a super low lumen mode, which offers you just enough light to look around in the dark in case you are just finding something while everyone else is sleeping. With the nice warm temporature of the light, you won't screw up your own night vision ability too.

 

 

Alright, it's a MAG-LIGHT!  The tailcap is equipped with a magnet inside and so you can stick it to your fridge, your door, your car and everything metal and magnetic. I love mag-lights, I mean, these kind of magnetic lights. Flashlights are great tools, and they are even better when you can just stick them around. I don't even store up my mag-lights, becuase I jsut stick them around the table's leg all the time (steel legs). It's so nice and so handy when it comes to car repairs and computer repairing. You just wnat to stick this thing somewhere and shine it at the spot for you. Lovely!  

 

On the road M3 - comes with a nice charger, a battery that has its unique wrapping, and as you can see, the flashlight has a pretty nice body with a pretty thick wall, meaning that, it's for sure tough enough for most situation. The charger is very nice, I have tried it myself and you can charge from USB or the wall using its cord provided. I love how "fully loaded" this package is, you just want to buy one for yourself, for your friend, and for your whatever or whoever who just don't have it yet.

 

 

Here are all the stuff inside the box. I personally don't give a X about the landyard and o0ring here, but they are nice to have, just in case. The pouch is excessive stuff, but I think there are some good purpose for it other than putting the flashlight into it... which makes it super clumsy. The manual is fully in moon runes - Chinese, which most people cannot read, but it's fine, you got me and my reviews...!

 

 

Here is how it look inside the box. You have to open up the top and bottom to find your battery and charger and all that goodies. I think the presentation is very nice and definitely nothing "cheapo vibe" here. It feels like a professional presentation, much better than a clamshell ugly package.

 

 

At the end, here are some nice flashlights put together, in order: Nitecore EC11, Olight S1 baton, Thrunite T21, On the Road M3, chapstick, AA battery, C cell battery. As you can see from the picture, this light is a tiny bit bitter than the Thrunite T21, but then, 920 lumens vs Thrunite's 450 lumens?  You pick which one you want! Olight S1 baton is still the smallest, but then, it's just 500 lumens, compared to a 920 lumens. Hard to beat!
